Subject: Lake Mary Flooding and Service Reconnections
Due to the recent flooding of the Lake Mary area, Southwest MS EPA has been forced to discontinue electrical service to these areas. As the flood waters recede, Southwest is looking at areas where existing facilities could be reconstructed at a higher elevation in an attempt to be better prepared for the next flood occurrence. One area that was affected early in the flooding was electric services that did not meet our current service specifications for the area. This specification requires that all meter bases and disconnects be installed at a minimum elevation of fifteen-(15) feet above ground level. This specification not only helps protect the customer’s investment, but also Southwest’s investment in meters. Meters that are installed in the Lake Mary area average 200% of the cost of our standard residential meter. These meters allow for remote reading in areas that have limited access to our personnel.
Southwest has decided that as service is restored to its customers in the Lake Mary and surrounding areas, all members will be required to update their services to meet or exceed Southwest’s current specifications. These specifications can be found on Southwest’s website at www.southwestepa.com under the Technical Info link.

You can chose either a table or graph to view the current level. When this stage reaches 50', water is on the land at Lake Mary.
Here is some info you may need for the flood insurance adjustors. The crest date is highlighted. You may need to figure out the date water got into your building.
Mississippi River Crests Listed Since 1927 at Natchez-Vidalia
In the past 70 years there is a huge difference between the record flood of 1937 at Natchez and the high water crest recorded at this station in 1934, a difference of 38 feet.
According the U.S. Corps of Engineers' records the highest recorded level on the Mississippi River at Natchez occurred in 1937, when the river crested at 58.04 feet. Just three years earlier the lowest "high water mark" was recorded in 1934 at just 20.7 feet.
Although the Corp’s records reflect that the highest level reached on the Natchez gauge came in 1937, probably the greatest flood of this century predated that by ten years, when the Natchez gauge reached only 56.7 feet. That was the year, however, when many levee breaks took place in both Mississippi and Louisiana, thus spreading out the flood waters in the lower Mississippi River basin so that the Natchez gauge did not climb as high as it did just ten years later when the flood, waters were confined between the levees.
At a written request of this newspaper, the Department of the Army, Vicksburg District, Corps of Engineers this week provided a complete listing of the high water marks on the Mississippi River at Natchez since the flood of 1927. Listed below in chronological order by date, year and level, are the Mississippi River crests at the Natchez stage:
